First commercial zip flyer adventure in State-1
Commercial operation of a zip flyer adventure began in State 1 from Saturday. The zip flyer starting from welcome gate of Bhedetar runs up to landing station of Devithan in Dharan-4. Chief Minister of State 1 Sher Dhan Rai officially inaugurated this 650-metre long pioneer zip flyer project. Likewise, Deputy Mayor of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City Manju Bhandari made a 45-seconds long maiden ride from Bhedetar to Devithan.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, CM Rai and Deputy Mayor Bhandari both extended their best wishes. Further, they pledged all possible support to this new tourism product.
According to Worldwide Nepal Group Private Limited, the project was conceptualised some two years back and built within four months starting from December 2019. “We hired expert technicians from Austria and procured high-quality equipment from USA to operate this service,” said Bibas Bhandari, proprietor of zip flyer. Bhandari is one of the owners of 1100-metre long Dhulikhel Zip Flyer in Kavrepalanchowk. According to Bhandari, maximum depth from zip flyer line is 300 metre and the height difference between takeoff and landing station is 43 metre. The height of takeoff station is 1,420 metre from the sea level.
Co-owner Kedar Thapa said, “The 16 mm diametre zip line cable has a load capacity of 11,300 kg. The capacity of the harness is 2,200 kg, while the carabineer has a capacity of 2,700 kg.”
Tourism entrepreneur Krishna Shah said, “Dharan is a tourist city. Whereas, Bhedetar is part of State Government-declared Tourism Rural Municipality of Sangurigadhi of Dhankuta. Therefore, the first zip flyer in confluence of Dharan and Bhedetar is a great initiation. It will help in uplifting the number of tourists here. This new activity has already added charm to popular travelling destinations in the vicinity.” Further, he said, “Domestic tourists and tourists from Bihar and West Bengal are likely to get attracted to this new adventure. Being located at a distance of few hours vehicular rides from Bihar and West Bengal, this project can entice them.”
The exciting areal adventure is offered in three different categories namely classic, tandem and superman. For Nepali nationals, classic, superman and tandem are charged at Rs 1200, Rs 1500 and Rs 2000 respectively. For the same categories, SAARC nationals are charged 15, 16 and 20 dollars. However, for people from other countries, the charge is 18, 20 and 22 dollars respectively.
The launching discount of 20 percent is applicable to all visitors. This Rs 30 million-budgeted private tourism venture is technically run by Amir Karki-led three-member technical team. Before its first commercial operation, the city already had tasted the first transient 150-metre long zip flyer at BP park area on 28 December 2018.
