Noted expert Joshi spoke on shrinking size of Tundikhel
On the occasion of the National Earthquake Safety Day, a programme was organised by Lalitpur Metropolitan City on Thursday. Speaking at the programme, satabdi purush (centenary figure) Satya Mohan Joshi recalled the nights spent in Tundikhel after 1990’s earthquake,
He said, Tundikhel was the largest open space of Asia at that time. Complaining that the skyscrapers have blocked the scenic view of mountains around the valley, he pledged the government to get concerned about the shrinking size of Tundikhel. Noted expert on culture further recalled that they could easily relish the beauty of mountains around the Kathmandu Valley then. The jungle of concrete has not only blocked people from seeing the mountains but also defaced the valley beauty, he added.
Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Gita Satyal stressed the need of adherence to building code in order to minimise the earthquake risks. Chief District Officer of Lalitpur Bhagirath Pandey urged to make quake resilient structures. Even a morning rally was organised to mark the Earthquake Safety Day in the district.
